Objects of Desire with Pandora McCormick
The Red Rock actress tells Andrea Smith about her favourite purchases
I'm really enjoying Italian writer Elena Ferrante's four-part Neapolitan Novels series. They're beautifully written, and are set during the rise of communism in Italy. My fiancé Killian bought me the third one, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay (€18.95, Easons.com) and I have to say it was a really good choice.
l've been obsessed with the cinema screen since I was a little girl, and the IFI's Sunday Brunch is one of my favourite things to do (€16 brunch and film, The Hangover Lounge, IFI.ie). I recently went with my mum to see the 1950s' film All That Heaven Allows, starring Rock Hudson.
I'm a fan of Meera Sodha's Made in India cookbook (€29.50, Easons.com) as she's brilliant at beautiful Indian food that's simple to make. She has a dish called Patra ni macchi - fish in a coconut, coriander and mint parcel - that's so easy, healthy and delicious. Food can get a little bland in winter, so something with a bit of spice is great.
I love Coco Chanel eau de parfum (€89 for 50ml, €126 for 100ml, Boots.ie) and pretty much wear it all of the time. I first got it as a Christmas present years ago, and when I put it on, I felt really womanly in a sexy, confident way. After that, whenever I needed a boost, I would go and squirt a little bit of the scent on and it made me feel great. It has quite a strong smell, so it lasts ages and you don't need a lot of it.
I really enjoy jazz and blues, and find that the tone of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday's music speaks to me in an old, romantic way. My fiancé Killian is in a play in London, and when I go to visit him there at the end of the month, I'm going to see Gregory Porter at the Eventim Apollo (tickets from €57, Eventim.co.uk). He has a beautiful album called Be Good (€9.99, iTunes.com) and I think it's stunning.
I love the M&S 'Made Without Wheat' gluten-free Quiche Lorraine (€4.49, M&S) as it's a yummy quick-fix with salad when I'm cold and tired after work. I'm not coeliac, but I tend to avoid wheat as it doesn't agree with me.
I'm getting married in July and am going to Bali, Lombok and the Gili Islands on honeymoon for two-and-a-half weeks. I've always wanted to go to Bali, and it's also Killian's 30th birthday, so when else would we get a chance to go? I've booked Sarinbuana Eco Lodge (from €53 per night, BaliEcoLodge.com) and as I'm a complete travel nerd, I've scheduled everything down to the minute. I'm really looking forward to trekking through rice paddies and soaking it all up.
How to get Pandora's favourite things on a smaller budget
The late Coco Chanel famously said, "A women who doesn't wear perfume has no future." As one of the most inspirational style icons in the history of the world, we think she'd approve of Estée Lauder's gorgeous new scent Modern Muse (€68 for 50ml, €95 for 100ml, BrownThomas.com).
If, like Pandora, the idea of staying at an eco-hotel appeals to you, why not check out the fabulous Sandos San Blas Resort hotel in Tenerife, a 5* hotel that has its own nature reserve. Prices are €1,094-€1,384pps on an all-inclusive basis for summer 2016 from Sunway.ie.
We know Pandora loves combining Sunday brunch with an old film. We think it'd be an absolute crime if she didn't indulge her love of jazz by enjoying a live session on Sundays from 12.30pm-3pm over brunch at Brasserie Sixty6 in Dublin 2, (starters €6-€10.90, mains €11.50-€19.90, BrasserieSixty6.com).
If you're following a wheat-free diet like Pandora, breakfast cereals can be tricky. This gluten-and-wheat-free Pure Oat Muesli from Kelkin (€4.09, Tesco.ie) might just be the answer to fuelling her long days filming on the Red Rock set.
Pandora plays Claire Hennessy in 'Red Rock', TV3, every Wednesday and Thursday at 8.30pm
