Me and My Money: Brian Ormond

LIKE many other young homeowners, RTE presenter Brian Ormond’s biggest expense is his mortgage.

However, as a first-time buyer, he got a good deal on the home.

“My house was my best ever buy. I love it. I bought it in November last year and it was a great buy.

“I thought I could just afford an apartment but was delighted to be able to buy a new three-bed house in Newcastle,” he said.

While he says he did start an SSIA, he did not complete it, although he has a savings scheme set up for the future.

However, there have been a few spending mistakes.

“My phone bill is my biggest waste of money. I’m addicted to my phone and when I get bored I use my phone which is a big mistake, particularly on holidays.

“I bought a charity auction prize a few years ago and, although I was delighted the money went to a good cause, I never used the prize. Such a waste as I could have given it back to the charity.

“I spend a lot on holidays. I take about four a year. I bring my daughter away at least twice a year for two weeks.

“I personally love LA but most holidays are for my daughter and she loves Florida. When it comes to booking holidays, I always consider her,” he adds.

“And then of course there are the inevitable funds spent on nights out.

“Why don’t you ask Krystle nightclub whether I spend much going out.”
