Usually sale season comes limping along a damp few weeks after what we laughingly call 'summer', but this year we still have weeks ahead to make use of all those lovely discounted items. I've had a look around to see what's on offer, while the panel shows you your consumer rights which, contrary to what many believe, are exactly the same during sales, irrespective of the price you have paid - so get shopping!

Fashion

Avoca's range is always eclectic, with 50pc off at the moment, including the 'Yaya' Blouse (was €84.95, now €42.50), the pretty 'Orient' Blouse at €50, and a 'Silk Desert' Skirt, perfect for any garden party or wedding, was €239.95, now €120.

Marks & Spencer continues its three-for-two knicker range (and we love M&S lingerie, don't we?) with its bestseller Brazilian €8.25 each or €16.50 for three.

Arnott's summer sale includes Miss KG wedge sandals at €35, from €80; Ted Baker leather tote bag down from €240 to €144 and a lovely FeeG cap sleeve dress at €120 down from €200. For girls, Kate Middleton's favourite childrenswear designer Rachel Riley has a strawberry dress at half price (€64) with up to 40pc off elsewhere in kids' clothes.

Home wares

Marks & Spencer has a super furniture sale, with up to 50pc off, plus free delivery. Included are the Padstow two-door sideboard, was €739, now €443.40 and the Curvy Kubu rattan sofa, was €1,079, now €539.50. Their dramatic Dionne chandelier was €270, now half price.

Argos has a great offer on its garden furniture, which is a great mid-season buy. With selected sets, you get added discounts off accessories, for example, the Ronda 8-Seater Metal Corner Sofa Set is €287.49, and you get 25pc off a range of parasols to go with it.

Save €52 on the Premium 4 Burner Gas BBQ with Side Burner which is now €177.99, down from €229.99, to encourage even more al fresco meals this year!

Arnotts has up to 70pc off bedding, including temperature controlled Dunlopillo pillows, now €20 from €70, and Dorma bedspreads at €87 from €290.

Argos has a third off the McGregor 30cm Corded Grass Trimmer, now €32.49, so no excuses for not keeping the garden trim. The McGregor Pressure Washer is down from €119.99 to €97.99... but only for when the water restrictions pass.

HomeStore & More has up to 50pc off garden accessories, with parasols and seat cushions at half price across the range, and a retractable patio awning at €134.99 (down from €269.99) for when the heat gets too much. If you haven't managed a sun holiday yet, all camping equipment and tents are also half price.

Household

Saving on your basic weekly shopping is also important and as it's perfect 'drying weather' for laundry, Tesco's offer of half price detergents is great. Persil 60 tabs are down from €19.80 to €9.90, while Bold 840ml is now €5, from €10.

It also has a two for €4 offer across its range of branded ice pops, including Twister and Loop The Loops. Aldi has launched its 'Swap and Save' campaign, with families saving between €47 and €373 over four weeks' shops.

They have striploin steaks (454g) at €6.99 (from €7.99) and beef medallions (386g) at €3.49 from €4.49 - perfect for the barbecue.

Toys

Argos has a selection of kids' toys marked down in the sales - it's a great idea to jot down the birthdays you have coming up and bulk buy now to save money. The Play-Doh ice-cream maker is a cool gift, at €11.99, down from €26.99, while you can save 50pc on a brand new McLaren P1 car at €17.99 (it's a radio controlled toy, but we can all dream).
