MORE than half of consumers surveyed recently by the National Consumer Agency (NCA) say they are planning a low-budget Christmas.
And people are attempting to get their finances in order before the festive spending season arrives. More than a fifth of respondents said they were saving a little throughout the year to fund Christmas spending.
The NCA has encouraged people to use the budget planner on its website -- itsyourmoney.ie.
Karen O'Leary, of the NCA, remarked: "Even with the best of intentions, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement and end up overdoing it."
She said the best way to avoid this was to set out a budget before starting to shop -- especially if you are managing on less money than before.
