Wholesale supplier Musgrave MarketPlace has kicked off a €2.5m upgrade at its Cork branch, the latest step in a plan to transform the business.

The work on refurbishing the Cork wholesale store is the latest step in a €10m investment plan that the company is undertaking to upgrade its stores.

Musgraves has already revamped its wholesale stores in Duncrue in Belfast, as well as both the Robinhood and Ballymun stores in Dublin as part of the overall plan.

The Cork Food Emporium is due for competition later this summer. Similar to the other revamped branches, it will feature specialty counters for meat, cheese and fish as well as in-house experts who are available to advise customers on the latest culinary trends and innovations.

The whole investment plan is aimed at transforming what was long a traditional cash and carry business into one that serves both convenience retailers and foodservice providers in an effort to remain competitive in the food retail market.

"The Musgrave MarketPlace brand has undergone a huge transformation over the last 18 months," said Noel Keeley, managing director, Musgrave Wholesale Partners.

"Our €2.5m investment in Cork is the next step on this journey and forms part of our €10m investment into our branch network. As a company we are committed to providing our customers across Ireland with a best-in-class in service and we want to not only offer the best range of products, but also add additional value through our in-house experts who are based locally in our branches."

Alongside the newly revamped branches, €5m has been invested into technology, the supply chain and marketing to enhance the overall customer experience.

The company is the market leader in Ireland with some 45,000 food service industry customers.
