Why is he in the News: Following a decade of lobbying by Fingleton, the Government is expected to rubberstamp a change in the law which will relax rules on ownership of building societies thereby clearing the way for Irish Nationwide to be taken over.

Born: Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.

Career: Fingleton has run the Irish Nationwide Building Society since the early Seventies, having previously worked in Allied Irish Finance and the Dairy Board. He also spent time in Biafra, Nigeria.

Education: St Nathy's, Ballaghaderreen, UCD, TCD and Kings Inns.

Family: Married, with four children.
