Veteran media executive named as INM chairman
Veteran media executive Murdoch MacLennan has been appointed non-executive Chairman of Independent News & Media (INM), after joining the board on March 1.
The company - which publishes Ireland's leading newspapers, including the Irish Independent and the 'Sunday Independent' - announced the appointment yesterday, ahead of annual results which will be published on Friday.
The Scot is deputy chairman of Britain's Telegraph Media Group, having been its chief executive officer for 13 years.
He replaces Leslie Buckley, who stood down this month after a five-year stint as chairman.
Before joining the 'Telegraph', Mr MacLennan, pictured, was group managing director of Associated Newspapers and before that managing director of the 'Daily Record' and 'Sunday Mail'.
He also chairs the Press Association Group and the Scottish Professional Football League.
The new chairman was one of four new directors elected to the INM board at an extraordinary general meeting on March 1, along with Fionnuala Duggan, a media executive; John Bateson, who is MD of INM shareholder Dermot Desmond's IIU; and Seamus Taaffe, a retired KPMG partner.
