Two senior appointments have been made to strengthen the business team at Independent News & Media (INM).

Dearbhail McDonald has been appointed Group Business Editor at INM, while Donal O'Donovan will be the Business Editor at the Irish Independent.

Stephen Rae, Editor-in-Chief at INM, said they would "drive improved business coverage across our editorial platforms".

Ms McDonald, who previously served as Associate Editor and Legal Editor at the Irish Independent, is a former news correspondent with the 'Sunday Times' and has won several awards for her legal affairs coverage.

The author and broadcaster, a global Eisenhower Fellow, is a member of the External Advisory Board of Maynooth University Department of Law. She holds an LL.B (Law) from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters Degree in Journalism from DCU. Her first book, 'Bust: How the Courts Have Exposed the Rotten Heart of the Irish Economy', came out in 2010.

Limerick-born Mr O'Donovan was most recently Deputy Business Editor of the Irish Independent and is one of the country's most experienced financial journalists. He was part of the team behind the explosive Anglo Tapes exposé.

Before joining INM in 2010, the respected reporter and analyst worked as a reporter and editor with Reuters.

In 2015, it emerged that he was the only Irish journalist whose reports on the crisis in the bond markets were included in the secret correspondence between Jean-Claude Trichet and the late Brian Lenihan in the run-up to the EU/IMF bailout.
