Terry Buckley stands down as INM director
Independent News and Media (INM) has announced that Terry Buckley is stepping down as a director with effect from May 31. He has been a director since 2012.
Mr Buckley had publicly indicated ahead of the group annual general meeting earlier this month that he planned to stand down, but the company had requested he stay on in order to help meet a UK Corporate Governance Code quota of independent non-executives.
"I'd like to express my appreciation to Terry for the independent perspective and significant commitment he brought to the role during his six years as a director," said INM chairman Murdoch MacLennan.
It is the second boardroom exit in a week, following last Friday's resignation of Paul Connolly. Mr Connolly was the third and last of what at one stage were businessman Denis O'Brien's three nominees to the board of INM, where he is the biggest single shareholder.
Four new non-executive directors - John Bateson, Fionnuala Duggan, Murdoch MacLennan and Seamus Taaffe - were elected to the board of INM at an emergency general meeting in March, when former chairman Leslie Buckley stood down.
At the AGM on May 19, the company's incumbent non-executive directors - Terry Buckley and Paul Connolly, along with Len O'Hagan and Triona Mullane were all re-elected by strong majorities of shareholders. Chief executive officer Michael Doorly was also elected.
The country's biggest media business has seen a raft of personal changes in recent months, beginning with the exit of former chief executive Robert Pitt last October, followed by the departure of Leslie Buckley five months later.
Last week, group editor-in-chief Stephen Rae, a long-time editor with the group, announced his resignation.
The newly-appointed managing director of publishing at INM, Richard McClean, has this week been meeting editors and senior commercial executives at the media group.
Mr McClean, who was previously managing director of Independent News and Media Limited (Northern Ireland), will hold a central role at the group under a new structure at the company.
He will oversee INM's online and print titles, advertising, circulation, printing and events.
