Industry regulators are considering whether to bring in advertising standards for e-cigarettes.

Assistant CEO of the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland Orla Twomey says the organisation is doing a complete review of the advertising code "which we do every five years or so".

"One of the decisions that we need to make is do we introduce specific rules for e-cigarettes or whether we leave the current guidelines," she said.

Rules introduced in the UK during the past week will allow e-cigarettes to be advertised - as long as they are not "marketed to children". In the US an ad starring former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy promoting e-cigarettes was pulled.
