Rae appointed Editor-in-Chief of INM flagship titles
The Editor of the Irish Independent Stephen Rae has been appointed to the new role of Editor-in-Chief of INM's flagship titles, it's been announced.
Stephen will oversee the new 'Digital First' strategy at INM, managing operations online and overseeing the print editions of the Irish Independent, 'Sunday Independent' and 'The Herald' with immediate effect.
An announcement regarding his replacement as Editor of this newspaper will be made in due course.
Describing the current media landscape as dynamic and evolving, Stephen said: "All media organisations need to change and adapt if they are to grow and prosper.
"I see my role as driving a collaborative change process impacting how we source, package and present content for the benefit of our consumers and advertisers.
"I've been privileged to lead a very talented team of dynamic and energetic journalists at the Irish Independent and 'The Herald'. Both titles are now in very strong positions. We now shift more focus online and drive our digital output.
"I relish working with the whole INM editorial team, online and in print, incorporating the 'Sunday Independent'. Online we are a seven-day operation and our new 'Digital First' strategy will see further developments in this area," he said.
The Editor-in-Chief's (EIC) new role is designed to ensure our titles are increasingly platform (print, online and mobile) agnostic and collaborative, while preserving their unique ethos and tone of voice.
Reporting to INM's Group Chief Executive, Stephen will have responsibility for the titles' print and digital publications, ensuring titles are structured, resourced and aligned for an increasingly digital future.
Appointed Editor of this paper in September 2012, he is former Editor of the 'Evening Herald'.
Stephen, originally from Castlemaine, Co Kerry, is a DIT graduate and qualified as a barrister at King's Inns, Dublin.
Vincent Crowley, INM Chief Executive, said: "Stephen's performance as Editor of the Irish Independent and the 'Evening Herald' and his vision for an integrated, digitally adept and platform agnostic newsroom, has made him the standout candidate for this critically important role."
The new EIC's appointment follows an international executive search process undertaken by MERC Partners.
