BOSSES at RTE have criticised those behind a 'secret producer' Twitter account, which is "leaking" alleged staff grievances.

The 'secret RTÉ producer' Twitter account claims to be run by "long-serving RTÉ producer" and has been active since September 7. It has more than 4,800 followers.

With almost 140 tweets, the anonymous producer says the "account is not affiliated with the station, merely my own personal views and observations".

Among the tweets, the producer claims that that commissioning RTÉ editors are "so lazy they put on an out of office with no return date" on emails.

The account also claims that staff morale in RTÉ is low as "it's like that because the vast majority of people in here, think what they are doing, is pointless".

"Since the recession hit a decade ago, there have been basically no promotions. The same people are in the same jobs they were in 2008.

"So you have 50 year old researchers, 60 year old BCO's. Everyone frustrated and pissed off, and fundamentally not arsed."

A memo to staff on Friday afternoon from RTE's HR department said: "I know many of you are concerned by the @rtesecretpro Twitter handle.

"RTE deplores the content and intention of this account. It is profoundly disloyal to staff, brings the organisation into disrepute, and in a public forum, and is a disservice to all of us who work in RTE."

It went on to reference RTE's social media guidelines and employee code of contract

"I would remind us all of the important documents below. Individuals involved in this handle, directly or indirectly, will be held to account."

The anonymous Twitter user also took aim at the sports department and the promotions department.

"Budget's gutted. no fun promos to make. Then opportunities to advance evaporated. And finally no new staff."

RTÉ declined to comment when contacted by Independent.ie.
