O'Connor new deputy at Sunday Business
Independent News & Media (INM) has announced two new senior appointments to the Sunday Independent.
Fearghal O'Connor has been appointed deputy business editor. An award-winning journalist, he joins from the 'Sunday Business Post' where he was public affairs editor. He had previously been the publication's daily digital editor.
O'Connor has held a number of senior business journalism roles, holding online editor and deputy editor positions in 'Business in Finance', as well as working on the RTE online business desk.
He was winner of the Business News Story of the Year category at the Newsbrands Ireland Journalism Awards 2016. O'Connor holds an honours degree in English and Philosophy from University College Dublin.
The Sunday Independent has also appointed Gavin McLoughlin as business correspondent. Previously business reporter, McLoughlin joined INM in 2014.
McLoughlin is a first-class honours graduate of both Trinity College Dublin, where he studied law and political science, and Dublin City University, where he graduated with an MA in Journalism.
Last year McLoughlin was shortlisted for the prestigious Financial Times/McKinsey Bracken Bower Prize, a global competition for the best business book proposal from an author aged under 35.
The senior appointments will further bolster the section led by business editor Samantha McCaughren.
INM group business editor Dearbhail McDonald said the appointments strengthen the Sunday Independent's market-leading business coverage.
"Fearghal and Gavin's appointments demonstrate INM's strong commitment to the best business coverage in Ireland," said McDonald.
