New UTV Ireland name could be B3
TV personalities Alison Comyn and Claire Brock may be eyeing up a move to TV3 after the station finalised its acquisition of UTV Ireland.
TV3 confirmed yesterday that it now intends to pull down the shutters on the UTV Ireland premises in Dublin's docklands and amalgamate the operation with its own studio in Ballymount.
It's also understood TV3 will announce the new name for UTV Ireland at an event next Tuesday.
It's been rumoured UTV Ireland could be renamed 'B3', joining sister TV3 channel 3e in the company's line-up.
The UTV Ireland rebrand will be completed in January.
TV3 - which is owned by US billionaire John Malone's Liberty Global group, which also owns Virgin Media - warned yesterday there will be some "unavoidable redundancies" as it closes the UTV Ireland premises.
UTV Ireland - which had been losing a substantial amount of money since its launch - employs 61 full-time staff and a handful of freelancers. They will now be able to apply for jobs with TV3.
TV3 agreed last July to buy UTV Ireland from ITV for €10m. TV3 said that it has vacancies for 40 staff at its own premises at Ballymount.
TV3 currently employs about 250 people and the recruitment process will boost its numbers to around 300.
