Two Independent News & Media journalists have swept the boards at the Irish Travel Media Awards 2015.

Independent.ie travel editor Pól Ó Conghaile was named Best Travel Writer and Tom Sweeney collected the Best Travel Blogger award.

The pair, who have more than a dozen travel writing awards between them, were honoured by their peers at an event in Dublin's Westbury Hotel.

Journalists in print, TV, radio and online voted in several categories recognising the Irish travel industry's top achievers of the past 12 months.

Pól, who was on assignment, expressed his appreciation in a pre-recorded video.

Tom, who returned from Bilbao just in time for the event, said: "It's always nice to know from feedback that readers have enjoyed our travel articles, but to be honoured by our peers makes these awards extra-special."
