INDEPENDENT News & Media has sold off its education division to a company controlled by members of the Cork-based Barry family.

INM had been in negotiations to sell the business, which consists of Independent Colleges and International House Dublin, for some time.

The business was sold for an undisclosed sum.

The buyers are members of the Barry's Tea family - the business was founded in 1901 by James J Barry.
