Respected news brands must stand up for quality journalism in the rapidly changing media landscape, according to a global campaign.

Independent News & Media (INM) is the Irish partner in the movement to underline the vitality of the news industry, and make publishing successful.

The campaign stresses that democracy thrives when people are informed by a sustainable, innovative, and independent news media.

The IFRA World Publishing Expo and DCX Digital Content Expo are starting the campaign with the message "United we stand. For quality journalism".

The campaign will stress that the free press must continue to prosper in the long term, supported by new technologies, products and business models. Other strategic partners involved include 'The New York Times', 'Süddeutsche Zeitung', 'The Hindu', and 'Le Figaro'.

Stephen Rae, Editor-in-Chief at INM, said: "The IFRA World Publishing Expo has always been a melting pot of news media. We are delighted to partner with the IFRA and the new DCX, and to support the vitality of our industry."

Alexander Petsch, CEO of Publishing Exhibition, the expo organiser, said: "Commercial success, especially in digital times and continually changing economic conditions, cannot be taken for granted.

"Newspapers, whether print or online, continue to have a wide reach, are well respected brands and employ many outstanding journalists... Digitisation and self-marketing of the media are major challenges."

The expos take place from October 10 to 12 in Berlin.
