Stock market-listed media group Independent News and Media (INM) says it is not in talks to buy the rival 'Irish Examiner' newspaper.

The 'Sunday Business Post' reported yesterday that both INM, which publishes the Irish Independent, and 'The Irish Times' had entered an official sales process led by advisers at KPMG acting for Landmark Media, which owns the newspaper.

However, a spokesman for INM said: "As previously stated by the company, INM is not in discussions with Landmark Media and is not engaged in any such process. It is solely focused on the acquisition of the publishing interests of Celtic Media Group."

Earlier this year, INM was reported to be considering a bid for the 'Irish Examiner', whose sales are concentrated in Munster. 'The Irish Times' is understood to be actively engaged with the team hired to find a buyer for the paper.
