Independent News & Media (INM) has confirmed the appointment of Michael Doorly as group chief executive officer (CEO) and appointed him as a director of the company, with immediate effect.

Dr Len O'Hagan has been appointed as INM's senior independent director and Mary Gallagher has been appointed as company secretary.

"I am very pleased on behalf of the board, and the company, that we are making this important announcement. I wish Len O'Hagan, Michael Doorly and Mary Gallagher every success in their new roles," said INM chairman Leslie Buckley.

The appointments were confirmed in a notice to the Irish Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

Mr Doorly has been with INM for more than 20 years, holding a number of senior executive posts, most recently as company secretary and chief risk officer. The native of Mount Merrion in Dublin took over, initially as interim CEO, following the departure of previous CEO Robert Pitt last week.

Yesterday, the company said Dr Len O'Hagan, CBE, has been appointed as senior independent director. He has been a non-executive director of INM since 2012. He has also served as chairman of Northern Ireland Water, vice-president of global affairs at the Royal College of Physicians, and chairman of the All-island Congenital Heart Disease Network board.

Mary Gallagher was previously group finance and treasury manager at INM.
