INM appoints two new editors to Irish Independent and Sunday Independent

The new editors of the Irish Independent and the Sunday Independent have been announced.

Fionnan Sheahan, INM’s Group Political Editor, has been appointed as Editor of the Irish Independent.

Cormac Bourke, Executive Editor at the Irish Independent, has been appointed as Editor of the Sunday Independent.

Both editors will report to INM Editor-in-chief Stephen Rae and their appointments will begin with immediate effect.

The Irish Independent and the Sunday Independent are the largest selling daily and Sunday newspapers in Ireland respectively.

Fionnan Sheahan is an award-winning journalist and well known analyst of current affairs across print and broadcast media.

He takes up the role after serving as the Group Political Editor of Independent News & Media, managing the political coverage of the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, Herald and Independent.ie, since 2013.

He was the Political Editor of the Irish Independent from 2007 to 2013.

Cormac Bourke has been responsible for the daily production and news delivery on the Irish Independent for the past 18 months.

He joined the Irish Independent in 2007 as Assistant Editor (News), subsequently becoming News Editor and most recently Executive Editor.

On a daily basis with sales of 112,383 copies and a readership of 691,000, the Irish Independent continues to be the clear leader in the quality newspaper market, with a market share double that of both of its competitors combined.

With weekly sales of 220,565 copies, and a readership of 992,000, The Sunday Independent accounts for more than 63% of the quality Sunday newspaper market, selling over twice that of its nearest competitor.
