DMX Dublin: 'Marketers need to think smart' - Chris Maples
THE former vice president of Spotify and currently a consultant to multiple businesses on digital marketing, Chris Maples has spent several months focusing on how our world has been changing digitally, technologically and culturally and will share his insights with his audience at DMX Dublin on March 11.
Maples says his presentation will pinpoint some of the more the interesting things he has noticed and how these can be simplified to make the marketers life a little easier. While it's a complicated world from a marketing perspective there are a lot of opportunities out there, Maples believes. It's just a matter of knowing how and where to find them.
"Many marketers can spend too much time thinking about shiny new media platforms and why they should use them and less time on how their messages should impact on those platforms. If they can find the right message and the right people then they can also find the right platforms where to connect with them," he says.
But in a busy world of multiple choice, multiple channels and burgeoning competition, Maples says that to capitalise on these opportunities marketers need to think smart.
"You have to get your product out quickly. You need to be open-minded, you need to be prepared to make mistakes and you need to be ready to respond quickly to these mistakes when you make them. If you wait too long then someone will get there before you," he says.
At the beginning Maples says that navigating your way through the digital quagmire might all be a bit too much for marketers to take in but as they relax into it, it will start to make practical sense.
