The ruble has fallen to its lowest value ever

The London Stock Exchange closed at an all time high today after climbing 0.5pc over the course of the day.

The FTSE 100 share indexes' closing level of 6,949.63 beat a record that had been unsurpassed since 1999.

The FTSE 100 has bounced back relatively quickly from the global financial crisis - doubling since March 2009.

In contrast, in Dublin the ISEQ index of Irish shares is about 40pc below its 2007 peak.
