Lloyds Pharmacy, the largest pharmacy chain in the country, is considering a takeover of rival group Sam McCauley.
Lloyds, which is owned by US drugs distribution firm McKeeson, has more than 100 outlets across Ireland and is looking to boost that number to 150. Wexford-based McCauley's has 28 chemists as well as an online business. The Sunday Times yesterday reported that talks between the two companies are at an advanced stage.
A spokesman for Lloyds said that the firm "does not comment on speculation".
