Key financier on the move
IRISHMAN Chris Weafer has stepped down as chief strategist at the investment banking unit of Russian finance house Sherbank.
It was his second stint at the subsidiary of the country's largest lender, and comes after his deputy, Ovanes Oganisian, left because of "personal plans".
Weafer, who was head of research at Troika Dialog in the late 1990s, didn't return calls by reporters after the company announced his departure.
He's had a fairly glittering career to date. Rated Russia's top equity strategist by Thomson Extel in 2007, Weafer was previously ING Group head of Russia research and chief strategist in Moscow.
He was appointed chief strategist at UralSib Financial Corp in 2007 after a stint with OAO Alfa Bank, the nation's largest non-state lender.
Weafer's even listed as a speaker for the London Speakers Bureau such is his level of expertise.
The Punt is keenly watching his next move.
