Frank van Zanten is to step down from Irish builders' merchants Grafton Group following the company’s AGM in April.

Mr van Zanten joined the board as a non-executive director in 2013.

Since then the company said he has made a “strong” contribution to the board and the interests of shareholders.

In a statement to the stock exchange, Grafton Group said Mr van Zanten has been nominated for appointment as a member of the supervisory board of Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize with effect from 8 April next year.

In October the company said annual profits will miss expectations, blaming factors including the impact of Brexit uncertainty on the UK construction sector.

Also in October Grafton Group sold its specialist UK plumbing and heating business, Plumbase, for £66.75m (€74.9m).
