Recruitment group Hays reported a 3pc increase in fees in Ireland and the UK to £132m (€153m) in the six months to 31 December, despite concerns around Brexit.

Ireland continued to deliver strong net fee growth for the company, up 10pc.

Overall the group reported net fees or income of £568m (€658m) for six months. Operating profit at the group was up 9pc to £124m (€144m).

The UK market remained “relatively stable” despite ongoing economic uncertainty, the company said in its half year report.

Commenting on the results Alistair Cox, chief executive of Hays, said: “We have delivered another good first half, and despite increasingly tough comparatives are pleased to report 9pc net fee and profit growth.”

“Looking ahead, although we remain mindful of continuing macroeconomic uncertainty, the outlook in the vast majority of our markets remains positive.”
