Hostelworld, the global hostel-focussed online booking platform, has appointed Evan Cohen as an independent non-executive director, effective from tomorrow.

Mr Cohen, who is a management and strategy consultant with over 20 years' experience in the technology sector, will also join the company's Audit, Remuneration and Nomination committees.

Most recently, he had operational responsibility for ride hailing company Lyft's entire United States East Coast business.

Mr Cohen was the sixth ever full-time employee at the location-based mobile service provider, Foursquare, from 2010-2014, where his roles included that of chief operating officer.

In addition, he has held senior strategic consulting and operational roles at Bebo, Jupiter and MTM.

He also advises start-ups through his own strategic consulting business, EVCO Advisory Services.

Michael Cawley, chairman of Hostelworld, said company was "delighted" to welcome Mr Cohen to the board.

"He brings a wealth of experience in the technology sector having held senior positions in several well-known global technology and media companies including Lyft and Foursquare," Mr Cawley said.

"His expertise in growing and developing platform businesses make him an ideal candidate to join the board, and I know that his knowledge of advising growth companies will be invaluable to Hostelworld."
