Two companies plan to create a total of 265 new jobs across Galway and Athlone.

Courier company DPD Ireland said it would hire 200 people as part of a €13m expansion. The new roles will be in the company's Athlone headquarters and other DPD locations around Ireland.

DPD said 70 of the roles would be filled before Christmas. It is looking for drivers, technicians, and administrative staff, among others.

Meanwhile, German company Phenox will set up a new manufacturing facility in Galway, creating 65 jobs.
