Embattled travel software firm Datalex has appointed David Hargaden as its chairman.

Mr Hargaden is an experienced board member and technology investor, and is the CEO of Unity Technology Solutions, an Irish IT managed services businesses.

He is currently a non-executive director of ding.com, the international mobile top-up provider, a former chairman of Cartrawler.com, and a founder and former chairman of myHome.ie.

In addition, Mr Hargaden was head of corporate finance at BDO Ireland between 2001 to 2008, and managing partner at Hargaden Moor, Chartered Accountants from 1992 to 2001.

CEO Sean Corkery, said: “As chairman, David brings significant board experience and relevant industry knowledge that will strengthen us and provide a fresh perspective.

His appointment allows me, as CEO, to focus on the running of the business and to lead Datalex to future growth.”

Datalex - headed until May by Aidan Brogan - has been rocked by the accounting scandal that was revealed by the company earlier this year.

Its first-half results for 2018 had been mis-stated and it since reported that it made a $50m (€45.5m) loss last year.

It was forced to turn to its single biggest shareholder, billionaire financier Dermot Desmond, to prop up the business.

It is hoping to have its shares re-listed on Euronext before Christmas.
