REGARDLESS of whether the Dubs win or lose at today's All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park, AIG has come out a winner.

The US insurer's sponsorship of the Dublin team has helped boost its consumer business by a fifth this year, country head Declan O'Rourke says. The company is launching a recruitment drive for 20 new hires to help handle this growth.

AIG has seen a particular surge in new business outside of the capital, in defiance of concerns that the economic recovery is confined to Dublin.

While car insurance premiums have been climbing across the industry, a result of underpricing in previous years, O'Rourke says it is levelling off.

"But there's still work to be done on road safety and legal costs, which will help bring premiums down".
