US billionaire bags Charlemont Hilton for €30m
US billionaire John Malone has bought the 193-bedroom Hilton Hotel at Charlemont Place in Dublin for close to €30m to expand his Irish hotel empire.
Mr Malone already owns the Trinity Capital Hotel on Pearse Street, as well as Humewood Castle in Co Wicklow. US media reports say the legendary cable television operator is the biggest private landowner in the US.
The Hilton, which looks on to the Grand Canal, once belonged to developers Jerry O'Reilly and Bernard McNamara, whose loans were transferred to NAMA.
Mr Malone bought the Hilton Hotel together with the Lalco Hotel Group, which operates hotels in Dublin, Galway and Limerick.
