UPC signs up 36,200 new subscribers
COMMUNICATIONS group UPC grew subscription numbers 13pc in the year to March, ending up with 923,000 subscriptions as its network investment and pricing delivered results.
UPC, which is owned by US Liberty Global, said it gained 36,200 domestic and business subscribers in the first three months.
The chief executive of the Irish unit, Dana Strong, said that the company was well-positioned to deliver high-speed broadband solutions to users in Ireland.
UPC has been engaged in a long campaign to lure customers from Eircom.
UPC Ireland's total subscriber base includes duplications in homes that might subscribe to one, two, or three of its services.
Figures from Liberty Global show that UPC Ireland had 332,700 cable subscribers at the end of March, 272,700 subscribers to its broadband products and a further 187,200 subscribers to its telephony services.
