Unemployment level unchanged in April but eurozone figure hits new record high
THE standardised unemployment rate in April was unchanged at 14.3pc, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.
There were 436,000 on the Live Register on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Figures for the eurozone show unemployment hit 10.9pc in March – a record high.
Nearly 17.37m people were unemployed or 169,000 more than in February, according to Eurostat.
According to the Irish figures, on a annual basis there was a 0.1pc in the number of people unemployed.
In April, there was an increase in the number of males unemployed and a drop in the number of women.
The European figures are likely to fuel more arguments that austerity measures are taking their toll on countries ability to grow while putting pressure on the jobs market.
