UA links Shannon-O'Hare
UNITED Airlines has launched a non-stop route between Shannon and Chicago hub O'Hare International. The airline will operate five flights per week until late August.
This means Irish business people living in the west of Ireland and travelling to the US east coast can avail of their nearest airport without facing a transfer.
Passengers will also be able to clear US immigration at Shannon, which saves significant time on arrival in the US. Ireland is the only country in Europe to offer this facility, also available at Dublin airport.
Customers can also use this route to O'Hare as a means to access onward connections. United flies to another 125 destinations from O'Hare. And UA passengers won't have to recheck their bags.
Irish passengers flying with United can also access the Aer Lingus frequent-flyer programme after a deal between the two carriers.
