U2 rocker's California mansion project on the Edge
Plans: The Edge wants to build in California
U2 guitarist The Edge should give up on plans to build a compound of mansions in the Californian mountains above Malibu, a local environmental group has claimed.
Since 2006 the guitarist, real name Dave Evans, has been dealing with opposition to plans to build five mansions on 150 acres in California.
The California Coastal Commission last week delayed a vote on the project until January after reaching a settlement agreement that would allow a revised version of the project to go ahead.
Katherine Pease, a scientist with local environmental group Heal the Bay, claims that even the revised proposals are unsuitable, saying: "a development like the most recent proposal would destroy the habitat, there are other places that they could build it."
A representative for U2 declined to comment when contacted by the Sunday Independent.
