Treasury signs up for Shanghai lease


TREASURY Holdings Real Estate, the trustee manager of Treasury China Trust, has entered into a lease for 1,636sqm of space with Eastern Life Insurance at the Treasury Building in Shanghai.

Minister for small business welcomed

ISME has strongly welcomed the appointment of John Perry as Minister for Small Business. Its chief executive, Mark Fielding, said his association was "delighted that the new Government has shown a commitment towards small businesses by appointing a minister with direct responsibility for developing, stimulating and incentivising indigenous companies."

Ireland in EU court over VHI's solvency

THE European Court of Justice in Luxembourg began legal proceedings yesterday against Ireland over the State's failure to ensure that VHI meets solvency regulations. A spokesman for the Department of Health here said no date had been given for the court's decision but a judgment was expected in three to six months.

Elan drug secures approval from EU

THE first injectable product to use technology developed by Elan's drug-delivery unit has been approved for use in the EU. The Irish company will receive milestone payments and royalties from Janssen-Cilag for the schizophrenia treatment.

Bank of England holds interest rate

THE BANK of England has held its key interest rate at a record low 0.5pc, where it has now stood for two years. Policymakers also opted against changing the bank's economic-stimulus programme -- known as quantitative easing -- under which it has injected £200bn (€232bn) into the British economy. The European Central Bank has already signalled that it is likely to raise its rate next month to fight soaring inflation.
