Treacy takes Chamber reins
LIMERICK Chamber has appointed a new president. Cathal Treacy, an audit partner with accountancy giant Deloitte. As president he takes over the reins from outgoing chief Dr Fergal Barry, above left.
Mr Treacy said his focus will be on helping the chamber's more than 450 members to do more business and develop the commercial potential of Limerick.
In that sense, the Chamber will have welcomed the decision to cut commercial rates.
Limerick city councillors approved a massive 15.8pc cut in rates for this year, to bring them into line with the neighbouring county council, ahead of the merger of the two local authorities in July.
"For 2014 and beyond our focus will remain on ensuring that our members can continue to operate in a competitive business environment, in a vibrant city that is well connected both nationally and internationally, with an educated workforce," Mr Treacy said.
