The number of people using budget airline Ryanair grew by 20pc last month, reaching 9 million customers.
According to traffic statistics released for December 2016, the load factor of the airline also jumped 3pc points to 94pc.
“Ryanair’s December traffic grew by 20pc to 9.0m customers, while our load factor jumped 3pc points to 94pc, on the back of lower fares in December and the continuing success of our “Always Getting Better” customer experience programme," Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said.
Mr Jacobs also stated that "customers can look forward to even lower fares for summer 2017".
For the year, the amount of customers recorded as travelling with the airline grew 15pc to 117 million customers.
Ryanair and Aer Lingus have been ordered to pay the Government what is expected to be a total of about €16m, after the European Court of Justice said the two airlines benefited from illegal State aid of that amount.
