IRELAND'S biggest fuel supplier, Topaz, has appointed its chief financial officer John Williamson as chief executive.
Mr Williamson (44) replaces Eddie O'Brien, who left Topaz to take up a senior position within the DCC group.
He joined the company in 2009 from Payzone. Topaz chairman Neil O'Leary said Mr Williamson was exceptionally well suited to lead the business through the coming years, making a very strong impact as CFO during a difficult environment for retail firms.
Mr Williamson said he looked forward to working with the senior management team to bring the company on from strength to strength.
Topaz reported earnings of €38.7m at the end of 2010, a 21pc rise on the previous year. It made an operating profit of €21m. The company is backed by Ion Equity, businessman Denis O'Brien and Galway-based property developer Gerry Barrett.
At the announcement were Mr O'Leary and Mr Williamson.
