Top man: Irishman is new president of global tech body

Professor Brian Fitzgerald is the new president of the international Association for Information Systems (AIS).

He is the first Irish person elected to the role.

Based in Atlanta, USA, the AIS is a professional association for individuals and organisations who lead the research, teaching, practice and study of information systems.

"It is an honour to be elected to this prestigious role and reflects Ireland's growing reputation as a global technology centre," Prof Fitzgerald said.

He is head of Lero, a software research centre in the University of Limerick. Lero's work incorporates a range of software development from driverless cars to artificial intelligence.
