The Punt: O'Driscoll tipping Scale in right direction
IT'S upwards and onwards for part Irish-led venture capital firm Scale Venture Partners as the California-based firm has led a $38m (€28m) investment in a company that makes apps to help companies pay their bills.
Scale Venture Partners was part founded in 2000 by Co Clare man Rory O'Driscoll. O'Driscoll is one of the lesser known Irish success stories in American technology.
Earlier this year, 'Forbes' named him in the magazine's prestigious 'Midas list of Tech's Best Investors', for the second year running.
According to the 'Wall Street Journal', Scale Venture led the multi-million dollar Series E investment in Bill.com, which brings the total capital raised to $80m.
In an interview with the 'Sunday Independent' earlier this year, O'Driscoll said he was excited about the future for Scale and its investments.
"Being in venture capital sounds very exciting, but it is a job. It's a great job and you meet really interesting people, but I am basically a guy putting out capital and looking for a return," he said.
It's one to watch.
