The Blackrock boy who went on to a glittering career in top universities
Philip Lane has a stellar academic CV. With a PhD from Harvard, and a first class honours degree from Trinity College, his academic credentials are impressive.
He has published close to 80 articles in academic journals, has contributed to dozens of essays, reports and commentaries, and served as an academic consultant to the IMF, the European Commission, World Bank and OECD. He has also supervised PhD students, including most recently, Gabriel Fagan, the current chief economist of the Central Bank. Lane has been with Trinity since 1997, and was appointed the Whately Professor of Political Economy in 2012. He's the second Professor from Trinity to be appointed to the Central Bank role, following on from Patrick Honohan. From Dublin, he grew up in Blackrock and attended Blackrock College. He lives in Rathmines with his wife and two sons.
