A Galway company has won sports celebrity and Silicon Valley tech titan investment in fresh finance.

Active Mind Technology, founded by John McGuire, has scored the investment to further develop its innovative wearable gadget, Game Golf, which it has just launched.

Investors include the fund led by Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, AME Cloud Ventures. A former top Facebook executive is also an early backer of the company. Champion golfers Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, and Jim Furyk and surf legend Kelly Slater are also investors.

In an investment led by Act Venture Capital, some of the top tier venture firms in Silicon Valley are also involved.

Leading backers include disk drive manufacturer Seagate Technology, €1.5bn venture firm Crosslink Capital, Venture51, and other elite Valley-based investors.

Targeting the highly active tech wearables space, Game Golf is a device that tracks your golf game performance using sensors and allows you to share your stats with others on social media.
