A PICTURE of swimmers diving from a tower has been awarded the top prize at the annual Clean Coasts photography awards.

Carl Cutland's 'Diving Fun' took the overall award of Photograph of the Year at an event in the National Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, last night.

An Taisce's annual awards aim to raise awareness of our natural assets, wildlife and coastal heritage, forming part of Coca-Cola's Clean Coasts week.

Commenting on the entries, An Taisce spokeswoman Patricia Oliver said: "It is not easy to capture the beauty and diversity of Ireland's spectacular coastline through the lens, however, once again, we are astounded to see the quality and range of submissions to this year's competition."

The total prize fund was €4,000 and 40 finalists were short-listed. The photos are available for viewing at www.cleancoasts.org or www.facebook.com/ CleanCoasts. They will also be toured nationwide.
