The State's Office of Government Procurement (OGP) is set to spend €1m on custom envelopes over the next two years. The previous contract worked out at around €1.3m per year, over three years.

The envelopes are for use by civil servants in each of the government departments as well as local authorities.

According to a prior information notice, a formal note that a State agency plans to procure goods or services, the contract is intended to be valued at €1m and will run for a two-year period.

A spokeswoman for the OGP said: "It is estimated that the total value of the current contract, which expires in November 2015 will be €1.8m."
