Shoppers taking Nigella's approach
IRISH consumers are following in the footsteps of glamorous TV cook Nigella Lawson and chopping garlic and chillies for dinner.
Sales of fresh garlic soared by 27 per cent in the first three months of this year, while sales of chillies jumped by 24 per cent and marinades by 28 per cent, according to the market research firm Nielsen Ireland. Frozen food sales, however, such as frozen chips and pizza, were down.
"Irish consumers may possibly be upskilling in the kitchen," said Tom Harper, managing director of Nielsen Ireland.
Sales of flour, dried fruit and homebaking nuts are also galloping ahead, according to Nielsen.
