Sharon Murphy to take over as Wilson Hartnell CEO as PR veteran Brian Bell steps down

Public relations veteran Brian Bell is stepping down as chief executive of Wilson Hartnell, but he’ll remain with the business and is taking a new role non-executive chairman of parent group Ogilvy & Mather.

Wilson Hartnell’s deputy chief executive Sharon Murphy will take over as CEO from 2 April 2018.  The Mallow, County Cork, native joined Wilson Hartnell in 2000 and took over as head of its consumer practice in 2008 before being names deputy CEO in 2016.

Meanwhile, Brian Bell will continue to advise corporate clients as well as taking on new responsibilities in overseeing Ogilvy & Mather’s media assets, including Wilson Hartnell, Ogilvy, 80/20 and stakes in Mindshare and Chemistry.

Former Diageo executive Peter O’Brien, who was appointed as Wilson Hartnell’s head of its corporate and public affairs practice in January, replacing Sheila Gahan, who stepped down after eight years in the role and 28 years with the firm. She has taken on a role as a senior consultant to the agency.
