Setanta Sports Hibernia posts €741,309 loss
The Luxembourg-based unit of Irish sports broadcaster Setanta posted a €741,309 loss in 2011, according to accounts just filed in the duchy and seen by the Irish Independent.
That follows a €543,000 loss posted by the firm – Setanta Sports Hibernia S.a.r.l. – in the previous financial year.
The Luxembourg company is the one with which subscribers to Setanta here have their contracts. The firm had recorded a loss of €1.3m in 2009.
Setanta confirmed this week that it has signed a deal with BT to show the BT Sports channels, including ESPN, from August 1.
The channels will become available to Setanta subscribers in Ireland. It will offer subscribers an additional 38 Premier League matches a year, including 18 top tier games, to add to the 33 matches Setanta already has rights to air.
