Ryanair saw its passenger traffic increase to 12.3 million customers in April, a 9pc increase on the previous year.

The load factor was unchanged at 96pc.

"Ryanair's April traffic grew by 9pc to 12.3m customers, while our load factor remained strong at 96pc, on the back of lower fares," Ryanair's Kenny Jacobs said.

Rolling annual traffic to April grew 8pc to 131.4 million customers at the low fares airline.

"Ryanair customers can look forward to more low fares and an improved customer experience in 2018 as we roll out more ‘Always Getting Better improvements," Mr Jacobs said.

The airline is currently continuing to negotiate with pilots over pay.

In April the airline warned pilots that any collective labour agreements with unions "must meet our proven business model of low fares, high aircraft utilisation and maintaining existing pilot productivity".
