Ryanair has announced a seat sale after it smashed its weekly bookings record.

The low fares airline took over three million bookings in one week for the first time in its history.

Ryanair is releasing seats for sale from €14.99 for travel between now and April, however the sale ends at midnight this Wednesday.

The weekly three million bookings record was as a direct result of the airlines low fares and the continuing success of the "always getting better" customer experience programme, the company said.

"We are delighted to announce this new weekly record of over three million bookings made on the Ryanair website and app last week, the equivalent of five bookings per second," Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said.

Among the most popular destinations for customers in the record breaking week were winter holidays to Lanzarote and Tenerife as well as city breaks to Porto, Milan and Naples.
